The Shivelys

Phil & Charlotte Shively are from far northern California. They love the mountains and the outdoors. After marrying in 1991, they joined New Tribes Mission and served as tribal missionaries in Papua New Guinea from 1998 to 2008. After 10 years in the tropics God led them to the Black Hills of South Dakota to teach at Cornerstone Bible Institute for 5 ½ years. Shortly after arriving in South Dakota they joined several other couples in starting a church in Pringle, SD. They love spending time with their 3 awesome sons and 2 amazing daughters-in-law.

Phil & Charlotte’s burden for Black Hills Ministries began in 2000 when they took their first break from the tribe spending 2 weeks at a missionary guest house in Cairns, Australia. Their physical, mental & spiritual exhaustion from living cross-culturally 24/7 was almost tangible. After 2 weeks in a western culture, they were so refreshed and ready to return that they began making plans. If God ever led them back to the States, they wanted to start a ministry for pastors & missionaries to come and recover from the rigors of ministry life. Today they would love for God to use them to do just that here in the Black Hills of South Dakota through Black Hills Ministries.
